In
Vermont you’ll find four-season world class resorts,
unmatched ski slopes, stately sugar maples (yes, still tapped
every March), Federal, Georgian, Greek, and Gothic Revival
architecture,19th century milltowns, and massive, otherworldly
granite quarries.Lake Champlain has 587 miles of shoreline,
and in Dummerston, you’ll find the longest covered
bridge in Vermont. Vermont’s pastoral beauty -- the
working landscapes, rolling fields, and white-steepled towns
are unmarred by billboards (and have been since 1937!).
Burlington,
our largest city and keeper of the jam band tradition, proudly
sports a newly built International airport, a renovated waterfront,
and the trendy Church Street Marketplace. Whether your project
is period or contemporary we have it, and we have professional
crews, equipment suppliers and a talent pool right here,
at the center of the East’s production triangle, only
hours from Boston, New York, and Montreal.
Vermont is largely permit-free. We offer tax
incentives including
a hotel tax exemption on stays of 31 days or more, sales and
use tax exemption on goods and services purchased and used
in the making of a film, and a limitation on performers’ state
income tax. Vermont’s child labor laws are some of the
most relaxed in the U.S. when the work involves acting or performing
in a motion picture, theatrical, radio or television program.
The “Yankee” work ethic prevails in Vermont. Because
Vermonters have traditionally relied on each other, we have
created an environment of mutual respect, and our personal
relationships define how we do business. In Vermont, we know
our neighbors, our legislators live next door and the Governor’s
phone number is in the book. The Vermont Film Commission works
with state and local government agencies to smooth your production
in all areas at any hour --most times, it’s just a phone
call away.
