14th Green Mountain Film Festival March 18-27
Cats, dogs, music, and mayhem are all part of the 14th annual Green Mountain Film Festival March 18-27 in Montpelier. This year’s line-up includes Academy Award nominee Wasteland, a documentary that follows contemporary artist Vik Muniz into the world’s largest landfill as he assembles materials to create a huge art project. 2011 also marks the Festival’s first ever Film Slam, where ten teams from Vermont, New York, and Montreal will have 48 hours to produce films locally and compete for cash prizes.
My Dog Tulip is a bittersweet account of an author’s relationship with an Alsatian and No One Knows About Persian Cats celebrates young Iranian musicians striving towards personal and creative freedom. There is also a musical undertone to enjoy ranging from documentaries and live concerts from James Harvey and David Amram to a talk from famed music editor Roy Prendergast (Caddyshack, Skakespeare in Love).
More venues mean more variety including outstanding films from Quebec and Vermont filmmakers as well as recent work from Egypt, Bulgaria, Japan, Mexico, Ireland, Nigeria, Australia, and the United States. The 2011 schedule includes drama, documentary, classic action, animation, and New Wave with subjects touching on romantic science fiction, historical, environmental and political themes.
A complete schedule of events, and ticket information, is available at www.GreenMountainFilmFestival.org or call 802 262-3456. Follow the Festival on Twitter @GMFFestival and on Facebook. GMFF is presented by the Vermont nonprofit organization Focus on Film.
